All applicants for admission to the J.D. Program are required to take either the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), or the JD Next unless they qualify for the LSAT Exemption.

If you have applied and would like the Admissions Committee to consider a future test score before rendering a decision, you should contact our Admissions Team at [email protected] to request the Committee hold your application until the new score is available.

Some applicants may apply to BYU Law using their ACT or SAT as their admissions test. To be eligible, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

1. The applicant must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA at or above 3.85
2. The applicant must have scored in the top 15% on the ACT or SAT
3. The applicant must not have an LSAT score reported by LSAC or have a GRE score reported by ETS to BYU Law.

BYU Law accepts completion of the JD Next course and exam as an applicant's admission test.

Because a CAS report is required of all applicants , BYU Law will automatically receive and consider all valid LSAT scores even if the applicant has sent a JD Next score.

Applicants using the JD Next as their admission test will still be part of the eligible pool for general merit scholarships. However, scholarship opportunities for JD Next applicants are generally more limited, and they are not eligible for a Clark or Dean's scholarship.
